The Venue & Accommodations
Tucked away on a quaint hillside of the Sierra Madre del Sur Mountains in the pueblo magico of Mazunte, the retreat center boasts six suites, a private cabana, an open air yoga and meditation platform, lounge area, and dining hall all with lush forest or ocean views.
Every room includes large sliding doors and windows, a terrace with a hammock, mosquito protection, a fan and ambient lighting. Shared bathroom facilities include ecologically minded composting toilets, sinks with filtered water bottles for tooth brushing, and solar heated showers.
Tastefully designed and built by architect Raul Fernandez with interior design by Taller Lu’um of CDMX, every structure incorporates local natural materials that support a fresh, breathable atmosphere & a deeper connection to nature. Single & shared rooms are available based on your preference.
A natural pool is currently under construction. If it is not ready, retreat guests will have pool access at a nearby upscale boutique hotel.
Please be aware that the venue sits atop a hilly road that we will be descending & ascending by foot. This is an incredibly heart- healthy & strengthening practice that can be relatively strenuous. Prepare yourself!
The Food
The majority of meals will be enjoyed at the retreat center, prepared with love by Mexican retreat chef Amanda & staff. The kitchen upholds the best practices to maintain good hygiene & serve healthy & delicious food that caters to your specific dietary needs. The retreat also includes one dinner out at the top rated, plant-based El Armadillo restaurant, truly the best spot in town.
Choose between a vegan or vegetarian meal plan & delight your taste buds with the famous flavors of Oaxaca and beyond.
You will also have the opportunity to learn from Chef Amanda, who is hosting a vegan friendly savory Mexican cooking class during the retreat.

FAQs
-
Oaxaca is one of the safest states in Mexico & we are staying in an especially secluded, peaceful town with friendly locals. Still, no matter where in the world you are, it is always important to remain aware of your surroundings & keep your wits about you. To assure the safest conditions, we will remain in a group whenever we leave the retreat premises.
-
You can choose whether to hand in your phone, which will be kept in the facilitator’s safe, or to go by the honor system & keep your phone in your personal safe provided for the duration of the detox. While is it natural to feel anxious, it is truly an eye opening & liberating experience to be without a phone for a few days!
-
The retreat center has high speed wifi and you will have the opportunity to connect before & after the detox if needed. Still, it is encouraged to spend as little time as possible on screens while at the retreat. :)
-
Absolutely. This practice meets you where you are! Beginners & experienced practitioners can benefit equally from the same class. You are encouraged to do what feels best, even if that means sleeping through a morning meditation session or resting in child's pose for the entire yoga class. The beauty of yoga & meditation is that there is no judgement or competition.
-
Absolutely not. This retreat is for YOU & will not require you to do anything against your will. While you are encouraged to participate to gain the most from the experience, there is no issue if you choose not to take part in some of the activities.
-
Mauna means silence. While this is not a silent retreat, observation of silence is carved into the schedule for a few hours before the New Moon Temazcal Ceremony to offer a taste of the silent retreat experience. Mauna presents a great opportunity to heighten awareness & deepen inward-connection through journaling, meditation, or simply practicing the art of doing nothing!
-
At the New Moon's peak, we will experience a temazcal, a traditional Mexican sweat lodge designed to purify the mind, body & soul. For thousands of years, temazcals have served to support healing from the inside out. Ceremonies usually last for two or more hours & are typically led by a shaman or temazcalero. To harness the energy of the new moon you are invited to set a personal intention for the experience.
“If you remain in your comfort zone, you will not go any further.”
